Here’s what to expect at your first appointment.
Your first appointment includes a conversation with Dr. Zeis and your hygienist about your past experiences with dental care, any specific concerns or questions you have about your dental health, and what you’d like your dental care to accomplish.
We’ll take a set of x-rays, perform a standard oral cancer screening, and do a full charting of your mouth to record the condition of your gums, your teeth, and your temporomandibular joint. We’ll update this chart at every visit so that we can track your progress and spot potential issues before they become serious. Based on what we find, we’ll talk about options for your treatment plan and create it together.

Yes, please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out patient information.

Bring a list of your current medications, ID, and dental insurance card, if you will be using insurance.

We generally schedule 90 minutes for the first appointment. This allows us time to chart your mouth, take x-rays, examine your teeth, review the findings together, and answer your questions. Most new patients will receive a cleaning at this appointment. Patients diagnosed with periodontal disease will have their cleanings performed at a future visit.

When you walk through our doors for the first time, a couple of things tend to stand out to people (in the best way).
First: the way we clean your teeth. We use the Airflow cleaning system, which uses a gentle spray of water and erythritol to clean teeth more effectively than traditional methods. Patients love it. It's so gentle, in fact, that we can use it on implants, porcelain veneers, and even young children.
Second: the way we see your teeth. Every new patient receives a full 3D scan – a live video recording of your teeth that lets us show you exactly what we see. These scans capture the position of your teeth, your gums, and your bite in remarkable detail. We also use near-infrared imaging to detect cavities that traditional X-rays can easily miss.
And when we need to go deeper: For patients showing signs of significant inflammation, we offer salivary analysis. With a simple "spit in the tube" sample, we can identify the specific bacterial pathogens in your mouth, then use that information to build the most effective treatment plan to reverse inflammation and protect your long-term health. Treatment typically includes a specialized cleaning, a medical-grade rinse, and antibiotics.

No insurance? No problem.
Zeis Dental offers an in-house savings plan for claim-free care. With the clinical guidance from Dr. Zeis, patients select a package that includes two, three, or four cleanings per year.
X-rays, exams, and fluoride treatment are included. All other dental work is discounted 10%. There is no deductible, no waiting period, and no benefit maximums.
